Music has a different effect on all of us. But what about other living organisms? Do you think they can hear music? Scientists can anwer your question, at least for flies. Did you know that even flies have a taste for music? Researchers at Nagoya University carried out a study on fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster). According to their study, fruit flies have a specific wing movement that can attract their partners. The female fruit flies get attracted to a specific wing “pulse” of male fruit flies, which in turn leads to copulation. They identify their species with the help of the “sound” generated by the wings. Using the process of auditory learning, the Nagoya University researchers were able to modulate sexual preference in insects.
