Air Pollution May Cause Intellectual Disability

We know air pollution may be the cause of several diseases. But retarded intellectual development was never one of those. However, according to a study published in the Journal of Intellectual Disability Research, the children who were exposed to air pollution have attained intellectual disability within time. The study was performed over more than 18,000 UK children born between the years 2000-2002. The results of the study showed that about children suffering from intellectual disability are 33% more in areas exposed to high levels of diesel particulate matter, 30% more in high nitrogen dioxide and so on.  The researchers also studied that the intellectual disability is higher in socio-economic deprived regions. With these new data, the scientists might be able to find a solution to the high number of intellectual disability cases.
