What is AI-generated Research Writing? The pros, cons, and potential

The internet is a vast sea of information. However, even this giant sometimes fails to answer your questions. If you have, say, a super specific problem, you might search it up on Google. There is a very low chance that you will find information on that problem. Maybe a 5-year-old Quora post might be helpful, but it isn’t wise to depend on that.

So, what is the alternative? You must have heard about the recent uprise of AI. Artificial intelligence is mostly coming in the form of AI assistants and chatbots. These chatbots can be used to fetch valuable information that you might not be able to access through the internet only.

This is how AI-generated research writing has come into existence. We will shed light on this matter so that you can take advantage of it. If you struggle while researching for a paper, then this article will be greatly useful to you.

How to Perform AI-Generated Research Writing?

Here are the steps that you can use for AI-based research writing:

  • Go to a chatbot like ChatGPT. Search your topic and ask for an outline.

  • Then, if you think that the outline is relevant to your topic, use it. If you don’t like it, click on the regenerate button or give further details to the tool.
  • Once you get the outline, you can start writing your article.
  • While writing the article, you can ask for additional information. It can be like the one in the following screenshot:
  • You can even use ChatGPT’s content in your article. However, you have to perform some extra steps if you want to do that. These steps will be explained later in the article.

This is the general framework of how AI research works.

After getting to know all these highs, you might be thinking that this method of research is perfect. However, you must know that there are lows as well. In other words, there are some cons of this process as well. We must address them as well. Before doing that, however, let us show you how to use AI’s research content in your work, as we said before.

How to Use AI Content?

You can’t use AI content in your work directly. Some sites and some institutions don’t allow AI-generated content. To tackle this, you can use article rewriters. These tools remove or lower the AI index of your content.

These rewriters change the wording, structure, and other elements of the writing. This is effective in removing AI percentage. However, you can’t use this method to write complete articles. This can count as plagiarism – or utterly unoriginal at the very least. Instead, you can use parts of this AI-generated text.

Pros and Cons of Using AI-Generated Research

To make it simple for you, we will make a table and use short descriptions to illustrate the pros and cons of AI-based research.

Pros

The Potential of AI Research

Now that you know about the whole picture, let’s talk about a few future prospects of this technology. If you look at the cons list, you will notice that even though AI can produce logical responses, it can’t access the information on the internet yet.

So, if AI gets to access the internet and curate its responses according to actual evidence-based information, then it can become a complete research tool. The AI market is projected to reach $241 billion in 2023. So, the chances of it becoming what we discussed are high.

Even in its current form, it is highly useful. You can use it to get over writer’s block. This means that your writing process remains streamlined, and you don’t get stuck on a point. Other than that, you can also learn new things using the current AI tools.

So, with the right type of usage, AI becomes a great tool for gathering information.

All AI based generate tools, have updated. They have now browsing capability, increased data analysis capability. So, yes, it cannot be generic. My personal experience is , if you have domain knowledge, generative AI has much to offer. For example, I can give prompt to GPT 4 to browse Australian Institute of Health & Welfare ( AIHW) website and find data for chronic diabetes and obesity. The output is accurate. I am not saying, they can overtake, but nevertheless it will continue to evolve.
