New Type of Bandages: E-bandages
The skin has the ability to heal on its own. But certain cuts and fractures do not get healed fast. The researchers of American Chemical Society have come up with a new type of bandage that can heal the wounds. The bandages produce electric field that dramatically reduced the healing time. A wearable nanogenerator was prepared by the researchers by overlapping sheets of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), copper foil and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The nanogenerators in turn will convert the skin movements into small electrical pulses. The team tested the device by placing it over wounds on rats’ backs. Wounds covered by e-bandages closed within 3 days, while it took 12 days for a wound to heal with a control bandage with no electric field. Researchers are looking forward to test it on human wounds as well.
