The Magic Metal That Absorbs Carbon Dioxide!

Carbon dioxide is one of the major gases responsible for global warming. There are several procedures that scientists use to lower its level within the atmosphere. Well, now you have a magic metal that can actually take up carbon dioxide gas from the atmosphere and use it to make fuels. A team of researchers at the University of Delaware have used bismuth to act as a catalyst in producing a type of fuel from carbon dioxide. On passing electricity through bismuth film in a bath of salty liquids containing imidazolium and amidinium ions, the metal shows a property “catalytic plasticity”. It converts carbon dioxide into liquid fuels like gasoline. Besides this, it can also be converted into formic acid that can further be used in several industries such as perfumes, rubber and leather industries etc. No doubt, they named bismuth as the magic metal!
