Editor Speak
Over the years, we have interviewed some of our editors to learn more about their editing styles and approach, so that we can learn fine aspects from them. Here are some interesting and insightful interviews with our subject experts, as they share their thoughts and views on academic editing.
Qualification: PhD in Physics
Experience: Educated with PhD in Physics from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Biological Sciences. She is a member of organizations such as the New Zealand Microbiological Society, Entomological Society of New Zealand (Auckland Branch), Vintage Phonograph Society of New Zealand and has also been the secretary of the former Self-Publishers’ Association of New Zealand.
Qualification: BA Honours Degree, International Relations with German and French.
Experience: Educated in the UK and Germany, this editor has over 25 years of experience working for publishers, universities, and as a freelancer. A member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders, he has worked as a technical author for numerous international journals.
Qualification: PhD Botany
Experience: A doctorate in botany, this editor has numerous achievements to his name as a vice-president, science technician, and senior scientist. The knowledge amassed over the years enables him to accurately deal with a variety of subjects.
Qualification: BS in Animal Bioscience. Graduate courses and research in Molecular Biology.
Experience: Armed with an undergraduate degree and graduate coursework in biosciences, she has worked as a freelance medical editor for more than 13 years. Besides being a longtime member of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) and the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences (BELS), she has completed many advanced courses in proofreading and editing.
Qualification: M.Sc. in Geochemistry, B.Sc. (Hons) Geology.
Experience: After completing her Master's in Geochemistry, this editor's life took a literary turn. She is a published novelist (Dell and Avalon), and a frequent contributor to the University of British Columbia's The Graduate magazine. She also edits science articles and is an active member of the Editors' Association of Canada.
Qualification: Master of Public Health in Public Health Practice, B. Science in Scientific and Technical Communications
Experience: With a degree in Scientific and Technical Communication and graduate-level training in biostatistics and epidemiology, this editor is proficient at handling complex, jargon-ridden medical and clinical documents. A certified Editor in the Life Sciences, she has considerable experience working in both a research setting (as a research analyst) and as an editor for reputed publishers.
Qualification: Bachelor of Arts, Colgate University, NY, USA.
Experience: This editor is well versed in texts pertaining to the fields of clinical medicine, basic sciences, health promotion, anthropology, and sociology. This editor has also worked with several publishing firms and is familiar with most of the widely used style guides. She has certifications in Medical editing and writing, copyediting, clinical study reports etc.
